I guess that the shapes in the Obama logo are generic enough that it could be interpreted in any number of ways  - an american flag? sunrise over a field?  a five-lane highway to change? – but I still think there’s something there. Or maybe it’s just because … I want to believe. (Isn’t that the power of good visual design?)

There’s a lot of great commentary and interpretation out there on the Obama logo. I especially like the visual-design-centric analysis in this article on the graphic design site UnderConsideration. It does a great job of illustrating how flexible the logo is, and how it has been adopted for many different niche demographics, such as this spin which  is intended to engage first Americans:

Beautiful, subtle design. I must admit that I’ve never heard that term before. Is that the currently accepted one?

Kids are so bad at drawing circles! And they love unicorns. So do I, as a matter of fact. I wish there was a Unicorns for Obama campaign – I think they’d totally vote for him.

Actually, I think that kids find the term “kids” insulting; they prefer to be called Developing Americans.
