Fotoviewr is an online service that lets you create gorgeous 3d photo galleries from your Flickr photos in about ten seconds flat. In literally eight mouse clicks (and a couple keystrokes), you go from not having any photos on your blog or web page (or having lame two dimensional photos that don’t even obey the [...]

Perfect Petzzz – Why So Delightful?
A Perfect Petzzz toy is a fist-sized puppy or kitten that comes curled up in its own pet bed, and does nothing except sleep. Perfect Petzzz are not soft, not stuffed, and not posable; you can do nothing at all with this toy except to observe its perpetual slumber, day after day. It’s not even suitable [...] -
Thoughts On Software Architecture and Corporate Structure
How is a company structured like a piece of software, and what best practices can be shared between the design of both?
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the the effects that the organizational structure of a company can have on the work done there. I don’t have a background in either business or management; [...] -
Finding Nemo …. has gone extinct
This one really blew me away:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article4220496.ece
Good job, humans!
Clownfish are going extinct, because Nemo (of ‘Finding Nemo’ fame) was a Clownfish, and now the tropical pet industry is scrambling to supply these fish to the millions of snotty little kids who nagged their parents mercilessly until they finally caved in and agreed to buy one. B.t.w. [...] -
Butterfly Heaven
The best nine dollars I ever spent was to gain admission to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in the Lincoln Park area Chicago. There were several interesting exhibits, including one called Lawn Nation which examines the role of the lawn in American society, and also a Chicago Academy of Science retrospective, which features all manner of stuffed [...]

Ads, ads, everywhere.
It’s no news that ads are popping up in just about every place that there is any available digital or analog real estate upon which to plaster them. Some great examples of this are motion graphics in train tunnels, trains, planes and automobiles fully wrapped in adds, and finally (my favorite) ads crammed into the [...]

Weezer Video – “Pork and Beans”
I’m not a die-hard Weezer fan, but I must say that they are a creative and clever bunch. Their new video, called ‘Pork and Beans’ features cameos by several YouTube celebrities (both human, such as Taye Zonday, and otherwise, such as this dramatic looking little prarie dog).
Besides the excellent self-referentialness of watching a music video about [...] -
The Design of Card-Swiping Systems
Trying to get into one of those after-hour ATM airlocks at my local Bank of America, I came across this card reader; it took me a couple of swipes until I was finally granted access (I’m sorry, Dan, I’m afraid I can’t do that …).
The reason it took me so long is because in order [...]

Fourth of Suck
Navy Pier ruined my Fourth of July, and I’ll never forgive them for it.
According to the Things to Do – Fireworks page, and the Navy Pier Fireworks event detail page the fireworks were supposed to start at 9:30pm. But, frantically run/walking towards Navy Pier at about 9:30, Elaine and I couldn’t help but notice droves of people [...] -
GMaps Pedometer: Great (free) tool for tracking runs
I’ve been using a great site called Gmaps Pedometer in order to track the distance of my runs. It’s built on the Google Maps API so it will work anywhere you can run … or swim (not accounting for island-, pirate-, shark-, garbage patch-, or current-related diversions, it’s approximately 3262.9843 miles from Montauk to Lisbon!).
It’s got a great [...]
